At the Berlin "Serious Games" contest, the city's Secretary of Commerce, Harald Wolf, awarded the 2nd price to lieblinx for their concept "Heal the World" by Kaspar van Treeck and Jens Merkl, both graduates at the Filmakademie Baden Württemberg. The contest was held during the annual "Projekt Zukunft - project future", a state-wide senate initiative for sructural change in Berlin.
Heal the World: gaming for a good cause
The innovative idea of developing a not for profit online platform for browser games, whose proceeds are donated to various charities, convinced the distiguished jury of economic and games-branch heavyweights and prevailed against 26 other project submissions. "Heal the World" is a joint project of the lieblinx GmbH, the graduate class "interactive media" degree program and the UFA Film & TV Produktion GmbH.
With the slogan "seniors to the games console", lbxgames, a subsidiary of lieblinx GmbH, was also able to succeed - with this contest's 4th place awarded to their project. Together with the Evangelischen Geriatriezentrum Berlin and a Charité research group, they aim to open the games market for the elderly and also aim to convice seniors of the potential of game consoles for example in rehabilitation.
Furthermore, we would like to congratulate our friends from Neutron Games, who were honored with the 1st place, for their game concept "Handball Trainer 3D", which instructs trainers, referees, and trainees alike.
Hosted by Mayor and Senator for Economics, Technology and Women’s Issues and the Investitionsbank Berlin the “Serious Games”contest strives to develop new areas of application for concepts and technologies in the computer games industry to support the Berlin creative and information economy.
